I won a re-create of this book from a Goodreads giveaway.
This book is interesting. It has games, parodies, and trivia that connect books and 1970s-1980s music. The overall design is neat. My favorite role was the trivia and facts, and I wished there were more. I noticed a few errors throughout. If yous like books and music, I'm sure yous'll notice this book amusing.

Well, I estimate I tin can land this volume achieves what information technology sets out to exercise, just merely just, and what that is isn't corking. You also get some crosswords. And that'south information technology, except the cadre of the book would appear at times to be the author's own cheesy, clunky rewrites of (bits of) classic songs to go them to refer to aspects of writing and publishing books. None of it'south dreadful, just I can't see many people keeping information technology permanently on their shelf – it's for scanning once, or mayhap dipping into and out of while sitting on the loo. Plus, with a plethora of Cheap Fob and Wang Chung hits that were never heard hither in the United kingdom, it does seem very Us-centric, and non to a global gustatory modality. Niche. Two and a one-half stars. ...more

I Like Big Books and I Cannot Lie by Tamara 50. Dever is a slim, and could have been slimmer without all the white space, book of activity for those who like older pop (mostly 80s Usa) and reading (I hesitate to say literary since at that place wasn't much beyond title dropping that even hinted at literary). It wasn't bad, only it wasn't peculiarly good. [Note: the 2 star here is the equivalent of a 3 star on Amazon, and then keep that in heed]

I expected more than than was probably even intended, which is likely a little unfair to the volume, merely I rounded up to recoup for that, then... I think puzzles, fifty-fifty ones based on nostalgia and shared experiences, should exist challenging (at least mildly) and teach united states of america a few tidbits we might non have known. Merely there was neither depth nor insight here, just party games to keep people entertained for a few minutes. To that finish, it succeeded as well as any Pennywise puzzle book does. Not quite a Dell puzzle volume but a reasonable facsimile for those non fix for Dell.

I can neither recommend nor non recommend this volume. I have no doubt there is a target audience, information technology just isn't someone like me. I demand a little substance, even to my nostalgic trips downwards retentivity lane. If yous keep some books or magazines in your bathroom, or have small dinner parties that demand something anybody can handle, this might be correct upward your aisle. If you like the thought of beingness challenged in your areas of great beloved, music and literature, you probably demand to look elsewhere.

Texas author Tamara Dever is a book designer and owns TLC Book Pattern, having written (with Erin Stark) the excellent MY PUBLISHING JOURNAL: A Pace By Footstep GUIDE TO PUBLISHING AND Emblem Periodical IN 1. Now she bounces onto the scene with this rollicking fun and entertaining book that celebrates her love of the pop and stone music culture of the 1970s and 1980s – I Like BIG BOOKS AND I CANNOT LIE.

This book is just the ticket for utilizing these otherwise lonesome hours of quarantine stay-calm orders during the pandemic: not just is the book a superb piece of visual design (Tamara does have the gift!), but it also invites us to some treasured memorabilia from 'better times' by learning facts and trivia translated into the forms of quizzes, crossword puzzles, fill-in-the-blanks games, and memorable 'new lyrics' to sometime favorite songs.

The procedure is made even more than enjoyable as Tamara bonds her fathomless knowledge of her chosen subject with her keen insights into publishing and writing and 'book-making' (of the literary type!). Famous songs/new unique lyrics will likely result in a lot of singing joy out loud. Clever, hilarious, retentivity challenging, and fun – this book is a book load of joy!

I'll fully acknowledge that when the rewrites of some of the songs came by to include a more "bookish" theme, I sang them out loud! Ok, so maybe not in the right tune, but still! Oddly enough they'll probably be lyrics I sing when the songs come up on Spotify adjacent time too!

The bits of trivia throughout are pretty absurd and not something I would take actively looked for otherwise, and then that's pretty awesome. I loved the overall premise of the book and the fact that information technology additional a lot of positivity and happy stuff. As someone who loves a good mix of books and music, this will be a book I come back to frequently. It's a fabulous read!
